Complete Guide to the U.S. De Minimis Rule for International Shipments - WatchPlaza.com

What Is the U.S. De Minimis Rule?

The U.S. de minimis rule is a customs regulation that allows goods with a value of $800 USD or less to enter the United States free of import duties, taxes, and customs processing fees. It applies per person, per day, and is officially codified under Section 321(a)(2)(C) of the Tariff Act of 1930.

This rule is widely used by both consumers and businesses ordering goods from international sellers, especially in the context of e-commerce — including WatchPlaza.com.

Key Benefits for WatchPlaza U.S. Customers

  • No import duties or taxes on shipments valued ≤ $800

  • Applies to both personal and business orders

  • Covers all shipping methods we use (DHL, PostNL, etc.)

  • Automatic exemption – no paperwork required on your side

Who Qualifies?

All WatchPlaza customers in the United States – whether you are shopping for personal use or for your business – can receive shipments under the de minimis threshold. The value cap of $800 applies per recipient, per day.

What Counts Toward the $800 Limit?

The total value includes:

  • The price of the watch or parts

  • Shipping charges (if not separately billed)

  • Any insurance on the shipment

Note: If multiple orders to the same customer arrive on the same day and together exceed $800, the exemption no longer applies.

Which Countries Are Included?

As of April 2025:

  • Eligible: The Netherlands, Japan, Switzerland, EU countries, etc.

  • Excluded: China and Hong Kong (effective May 2, 2025)

This means that goods originating from China or Hong Kong will be subject to import duties even if they are shipped from WatchPlaza’s Dutch warehouse.

Are WatchPlaza Products Eligible?

Absolutely. All of our original Seiko watch parts, straps, bezels, tools, and accessories are consumer-friendly goods and fully eligible under the de minimis rule, provided they are not manufactured in China.

Excluded items such as alcohol, tobacco, or controlled goods are not part of our catalog.

U.S. Sales Tax?

No U.S. sales tax or VAT is charged on WatchPlaza.com orders under $800. State tax generally applies only to domestic sales and not to low-value imports like ours.

Will You Pay Extra Upon Delivery?

No. For all WatchPlaza shipments under $800 USD:

  • ❌ No import duties

  • ❌ No U.S. taxes

  • ❌ No clearance or brokerage fees

  • ✅ The price you pay at checkout is final

What WatchPlaza Declares on Shipments

To ensure smooth delivery, we include:

  • The correct HS code

  • The country of origin of each product (e.g., Japan, Netherlands, Thailand)

  • The total declared value in USD

  • Your complete shipping information

We also avoid shipping items of Chinese origin to U.S. customers, unless specifically requested.

Example Order

  • U.S. customer buys a Seiko jubilee bracelet (ref: 44G1JZ) for $95

  • Made in Malaysia

  • Shipping: $18

  • Total: $113 (under $800)

Result: Delivered with no additional charges.
